I sympathize with you 100% Peps (although I think you already knew that). I occassionally check in on the "Then and Now" feature on this site. They'll take an old photograph of an intersection from decades past, then go to the same place today and take a photograph at the exact same angle and let the reader weep over the loss.

I think I may have done this post before  ;D  yeah I like that kind of thing.   I could go on an on with just this town.

I never got to see the downtown of the town I grew up near because it was demolished before I was born.   This bothers me to this day  :'(

Downtown by the river went downhill due to shifts in transportation.. from water to rail to auto and truck left the waterfront without traffic.  Then loss of manufacturing then loss of retail (suburban malls, a typical story).

But, it's an unfathomable solution to tear down thousands of solid buildings built by people over generations by hand with bricks, granite and cobblestone.   But they did it to get rid of what was mostly abandoned and blighted when it happened.

here is the same spot today - even the road no longer exists!

If it could be limited to the resorts this is actually a fascinating idea. Perfectly suited to Vegas. Force the casinos to purchase Covid specific medical and life insurance for every employee and guest...accurate odds of survival (of both the guests and Vegas itself) would become very obvious within a month.

Problem is guests go back to their towns and..

in Lowell they have saved, thankfully, one surviving sample of a working weeve room.   I have been there several times - it is very loud to be in that room!
