i am not sure why there is so much obfuscation and refusal to offer clarification.

Probably because it hasn't been thought through clearly  ;)

And how, pray tell, were you able to diagnose these homeless people? Schizphrenia is a tough diagnosis for a medical doctor. Maybe you missed your calling?

It's pretty easy actually.  Schizophrenics tend to hear voices and talk to (and yell to) imaginary people.

Neither. A better approach is to put Big Pharma under the gun to release info to doctors and to parents about violent drug side effects.

Seems like you are downplaying the actual mental disorders as causation of violence and point to the drugs which are designed to treat mental disorders.  [/quote]

So we should provide no additional support to people with mental disorders but warn them about side effects of the medication designed to treat mental disorders, and do nothing to try to prevent them from obtaining weapons, do I have that correct?

I understood her to say that despite the fact that mentally deranged folks are committing these atrocities, the Democrats are not going after that group. Instead, they're going after a group (law-abiding owners) that do not represent a threat.

"Going after?"  How does one "go after" people with mental problems?

Of course democrats have been talking about the mental health issue and of course better background checks are all about that (opposed by republicans, primarily, correct?)

That - and I understood her to say that the GOP is the only party that's promoting ideas actually shown to decrease gun violence.

I didn't get this from her article.  She is saying people with mental issues should be institutionalized.  What republican is proposing this?

I took my kids to see the city from the top of its tallest building Sunday.   Of course I brought my tripod and wide angle lens.   Next week we'll be top of the Empire State Building

All pedestrian deaths during a traffic accident are homicides. All deaths of passengers in a vehicle accident are homicides. Do you understand that?

Dude, when you're in a hole stop digging!

In 2010 there were 11,493 firearm homicides. There were 34,485 vehicular homicides. That's three times as high.

Link?   Warning in advance you're incredibly wrong, but go ahead and show us your source.

It leaves me to wonder what motivates people to buy into such trash.  Some appear to be very cynical and distrustful of government in general.
IMO this is some sort of a mental condition such as a phobia.  An unwarranted fear of something that may not even exist except in their minds.

The problem with your "point" is that it is not valid. If you actually knew anything about modern firearms, you would know that.

Your argument may as well be saying, you have 10 times the chance of getting struck by lightning or hit by a meteorite. I suppose it could, but it is highly unlikely. When I was on the range yesterday, I watched students (collectively) change magazines well over a hundred times without a single "jam" or "bobble". The average reload time was probably two, maybe 3 seconds, about average for a group of "non-operators".

The whole magazine capacity issue is just another senseless "feel good" measure that would accomplish absolutely nothing.

Sandy Hook -

As many as a half-dozen first graders may have survived Adam Lanza's deadly shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School because he stopped firing briefly, perhaps either to reload his rifle or because it jammed, according to law enforcement officials familiar with the events.

A source said that the Bushmaster rifle that Lanza used in the shootings is at the state police forensic laboratory undergoing several tests, including tests to determine whether it was jammed.

The children escaped from the first-grade classroom of teacher Victoria Soto, one of the six educators Lanza killed in Newtown after shooting his way through a glass door with the .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle on the morning of Dec. 14.

Columbine -

Investigators who gathered up the guns, the shells, the shrapnel and the bullets noticed some of the high-capacity magazines held unfired ammunition. Blessedly, at some moments during the massacre, Klebold's TEC-DC9 evidently jammed.

Aurora -

(CNN) -- The semi-automatic rifle used in the Colorado theater killings jammed during the rampage, apparently because of a problem with the 100-shot magazine feeding it, a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the investigation said Sunday.

The military-style AR-15 had a separately purchased drum magazine, which can have trouble feeding bullets into the firing chamber if the gun is fired rapidly, the source told CNN.

"These after-market extended magazines have a tendency to jam," the source said.
