Hey Vel, I see the need for a change in the healthcare system, and I will bet many conservatives agree.  It is the method of financing the monster that bothers me, and from what I read there is also a lot of intrusion into the private sector.

My experience with the VA system and with Medicare tells me that government needs to stay out of the system.  Medicare isn't bad in that the docs can do pretty much as they wish and still get paid, but they inflate their fees knowing that Medicare will knock them down. For example, my family doctor charges 96 dollars for a short visit, 15 minutes to 30 minutes, and Medicare will pay only 86 dollars or so.  So those who are not on Medicare are also paying the inflated rate in order to subsidize the oldsters who are on Medicare.

From my experienc the BC/BS does the same thing, and the providers just inflate their fees to compensate for the markdown from the insuror.  So when Obama says his plan will reduce the cost of healthcare I am very skeptical.  Someone will pony up in some manner.  If not, the doctors will become scarce and we access will suffer.

Newt Gingrich's org is sponsoring a national TV ad titled "Where are the jobs Mr. President." and it brings it home.  Here we are in a recession and Obama wants to implement a job killing program that sucks up taxes.

One of Newt's proposals is to reduce payroll taxes by half for the employer and the employee for a time.  This would leave more money in the private sector for folks to get by on until things pick up.  They had other ideas too but I forget what they were.

I think that Obama's program is in trouble.  If it weren't he wouldn't need to be stumping for it.

I can't wait til the republicans explain how folks should vote for them so that insurance companies are once again allowed to renege insurance coverage for people who have "pre-existing conditions", how their kids won't be allowed to remain on their parents insurance plans until they get out of college, etc.

76% of ALL Americans will be thrilled and support that position.

no they don't and not for the reasons you think.  quite a few think this is a capitulation to insane republicans and would prefer a FAR more progressive plan such as single-payer.

Republicans have been in power for 2 years and have not produced on job creating proposal. Obama was tryginto get a infrastucture repari bill through whcih would have created jobs and the republicans in washington have made certain to  obstruct. So then for Newt to waste money and time with a 30 minute program full of lies and propaganda shows how desparate he is to become relevant.

Republicans are wasting taxpayer time arguing about contraception and abortion, when they could have put forth job creating legisation. A Presidential candidate is talking loudly about contraception, but not jobs. No one wants to listen to republicans bitch and moan about what they claim Obama hasn't done because we know they are lying.

ROFLOLOLOLOCOPTERS!!!!!!!

well they're going to be even less in charge after november.  they're looking pretty shaky in a few house races such as olympia snowe's.

plus i think a lot of people are very disenchanted with those tea-party nuts they ushered in in '10.

In the meanwhile, Harry Reid (D) will not allow Obama's Jobs Bill to come up for a vote.

Interesting, huh?
