That's a novel way of looking at it.

I think that religion gets in trouble when it forgets that the separation of church and state protects religion moreso than it protects the state.

My own view is that too many "religious" people begin with a premise - that there is an all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal God - and then proceed to describe His attributes, desires and agenda in the minutest detail, like they were ghost-writing His Facebook page. It's the pinnacle of presumption.

I often think that the Hindus, generally speaking, have a much more devout (and at the same time realistic) understanding of the "otherness" of such a being; they're often accused of having "three million" (or some other random number of) gods, but in fact their faith teaches that there is but one, Whose name is Brahman, and all of the other "gods" are but reflections of a single one of His aspects...mortals being incapable of seeing or comprehending God in His entirety.

In contrast, so many Christians seem perfectly entitled to expound on their God's judgment of this, or about how their God "feels" about the other thing. So much of it is clearly self-interested twaddle or doctrinaire emendation. It's like the coworker who tells you, "The boss wants it done this way", when, in fact, the boss has not expressed an opinion, and may either want it done the other way or couldn't care less.

To be honest, i think most religious people couldn't give a shit about other religious people or non-religious people.  It has been my experience that most people are live and let live.

The problem is loudmouths get the attention.

Nope, I don't care for bible banger fundies either,. but your penis analogy is obscene an uncalled for.  If you don't care for religion then stay out of it,
but your implication of shoving a penis down your children's throats tells me you might benefit from some religious teaching.
