What I gleaned from that was that anyone who disagrees with Michael Vorhis is going to Hell.

How special.

I keep saying that Mornac is turn or burn, and he keeps denying it.

He did have a clever retort when I quoted the book of Matthew about how Jesus said that the way to get to heaven was to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, clothe the naked, and tend to the sick.

His comment about Reform Jews was actually funny. Unlike a lot of "conservatives" he has a sense of humor. But I didn't learn that Matthew 25 was the only place in the bible that actually describes what is necessary in order to get to heaven. I actually learned that from listening to Thom Hartmann.

If that is true, and this is what Jesus was all about, then how do you get self righteous pukes like Voris?

For a guy who demands others define gay....Mornac seems wholly unconcerned with a definition of truth.

Don't tell me. He said that the Catholic Church's response was to open hospitals, restaurants and clothing stores, and demand tax exemption and a pass on all employment rules for these "faith-related" businesses?

And no living wage for the workers...that way the poor will always be with us!  Yay!

No. He said that Reform Judaism was way more reformed than he imagined it to be.

I was quoting the New Testament. Jews don't believe that there is a New Testament.

No, he was genuinely clever on that one. Made me laugh. Smiley

I really don't think Mornac is a bad guy. I don't like his theology any more than anyone else, but theology is a really goofy thing. I can allow for that eccentricity if the man is good in other aspects of his life and I have no reason to believe Mornac isn't good IRL.

But I have to say that, much to my dismay, I do have a lot of problems with Mormonism. I really wish that Romney would be put to task for some of the things his religion preaches.

I do have a problem raising that issue too, but I still think he ought to be made to come clean. There's some really goofy stuff in the Book of Mormon.

Some even goofier stuff in the personal history of its founder, Joseph Smith, and the story surrounding the Book of Mormon's - shall we say - creation. It would be one thing if Romney were just a run-of-the-mill pewsitter, but the man was, I think, some kind of Bishop in the church; he either takes this stuff very seriously, or he doesn't, but for political and personal reasons he would never say so. I don't know which is worse.

The attraction of religious fundamentalism, with its emphasis on intolerance of opinion and demand for authoritative and universal answers, is insidious; many fall prey to it, to some degree or another and for a longer or shorter period of time, in the course of a lifetime. It's the appeal of knowing - of having a handbook for life, which dispels all uncertainties, doubts and mysteries - combined with (at least in the case of Christianity) the universal appeal of "getting to start over", and - though many would deny it - the appeal of getting to feel superior to the uninitiated.

If you want to read some wierd stuff then read the OT.  Noah's ark, parting of the waves, yeah right.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

I'll take a Mormon over a Muslim any day.

I don't know where you got your quote, but that is not the mainstream idea of how you get to Heaven.  The items enumerated in Matthew 25 refer to the service aspects of Christianity, the things you do for the Lord while here on earth.

It all gets down to the rejection of the Judaic belief that deeds will get you to Heaven, or will bring you salvation.  Good deeds are a way for a Christian to walk the walk as well as talking the talk, but they are not the basic requirements for getting to Heaven.
