I used to admire the man for his talent, legend and personality, his role model, mentor status, but when it came to light that the bastard was covering his own ass, his employers ass, and even worse, Sandusky's pedophile pervert ass, it all went out the window.

Well, i suppose it is a good thing for newsrake that the Sandusky case is not being prosecuted by the feds or the title of this thread would have been something like "Eric Holder and Barak Obama hound 85 year old cancer patient, Joe Paterno to his death."  You know how BoffLaden is with his crocodile tears.

Paterno did the exact thing required of him and no more.  He did not stand up as a man and do the right thing.  Clearly, he seriously erred and put others in harm's way.

That said, expressions of joyfulness at the death of a human being, and that is really what this thread began as, regardless of moral worth, is just plain ugly.  It is the stuff of those idiots from Kansas.

But it seems like a lot of the admin were scared of Sandusky. I guess he's a pretty big guy and mean.

Still, if I had been Paterno, I would have fired his ass. The reality is that  Joe Paterno was not the child fucker. That would be Jerry Sandusky.

It's sad that Paterno died fom a broken heart. He did not deserve this.

i agree that he did what was required of him, but that does not absolve him of his moral responsibility.  But i would say a bit more.  The guy he reported to, the sports director, was only his superior in name only.  That guy was beholden to Paterno for his job.  Paterno could have done more, by any ethical standard (not legal standard, but ethical standard) was required to do more, and, let's be honest, should have done more.

There is no doubt.  The fact that he did not take the witness and go directly to the police is very disturbing.

I think the objection was Paterno waited until Sandusky blew his load in the kid's ass before he said anything about it.
