Rand Paul returns $500K in office budget to Treasury

By SCOTT WONG |
1/12/12 1:50 PM EST

Freshman Sen. Rand Paul is making good on his promise to cut federal spending. The Kentucky Republican and tea-party favorite said Thursday he’s returning $500,000 to the U.S. Treasury -- money from his operating budget that his office never spent.

The half million dollars represents about 16 percent of Paul’s annual budget, and he contends no senator has returned as much to taxpayers.

“I ran to stop the reckless spending. And I ran to end the damaging process of elected officials acting as errand boys, competing to see who could bring back the biggest check and the most amount of pork,” Paul said at a news conference in Louisville, where he presented taxpayers with a massive mock check for $500,000.

“I hope this sets an example for the rest of government – at all levels,” he added. “We can carry out our duties in a fiscally responsible way. Government can be both smart and efficient. We are proving that – and trying to convince the rest of Washington.”

Paul is the son of GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul and co-founded the Senate tea party caucus. As the younger Paul stumped for his father in Iowa and New Hampshire, there’s been plenty of speculation that Rand Paul could launch a presidential bid of his own in 2016.

I don't think a man who opposes the civil rights act will EVER be president of this country.

Not to mention his ties to Alex Jones and his good friend Chris Hightower.  In fact, given a lot of that some people may begin asking why his old man won't just say who wrote the racist blather in some of those newsletters.

You don't think Paul is a racist?  Good for you.  But i genuinely believe the reason Ron Paul would not divulge the name of the author of the racist articles in his news letter is because it may be Rand Paul.  And i suggest that because he openly consorted with known white supremacists.

"Let me be clear: I support the Civil Rights Act because I overwhelmingly agree with the intent of the legislation, which was to stop discrimination in the public sphere and halt the abhorrent practice of segregation and Jim Crow laws," -Rand Paul

I believe he was referring to the "act" that democrat party icon Robert Byrd filibustered against and fought tooth and nail to prevent...........the one that Republicans supported in higher proportions than democrat party Byrd buds

The Republican platform for 1964 and its presidential candidate...for or against the Civil Rights Act?

Robert Byrd is dead.  Again buffy, todays republican party is the party that would filibuster the civil rights act if it were brought up for a vote today. We all know it. You know it, that's why you tried that dead ass reference to Robert Byrd.

Here is dust ups presidential hopeful:

Quote
Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul believes that the federal government blurred the lines between public and private property when it passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and made it illegal for private businesses to discriminate on the basis of race.

Paul explained his views on "The Rachel Maddow Show" Wednesday, just one day after walloping his opponent in Kentucky's Republican primary.

Maddow focused on the Tea Party-backed candidate's civil rights stance after he publicly criticized parts of the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Paul told Maddow that he agrees with most parts of the Civil Rights Act, except for one (Title II), that made it a crime for private businesses to discriminate against customers on the basis of race. Paul explained that had he been in office during debate of bill, he would have tried to change the legislation. He said that it stifled first amendment rights:

I guess blacks didn't have first amendment rights.

You know it has been documented for years.  Strom led the change.  We could also mention other Southern Democrats like Trent Lott, for example.  If you do not know that you are as stupid as the rest of you.

"You know it has been documented for years." -hp

great, then backing up your claim should be a piece of cake for you to document

"Strom led the change." -hp

so then, googling "Strom's Light Brigade" should take you right where you need to be to back up your claim.
...this claim:

"And most of those Southern Conservative democrats...like Strom Thurmond...became what?  That's right Republicans."  -hp

"We could also mention other Southern Democrats like Trent Lott, for example."  -hp

sure we could, right after you back up your claim, because to do it now would just look like a diversionary tap dance of a gasbag caught in a lie.

"If you do not know that you are as stupid as the rest of you." -hp

lobbying for illiterate quote of the year does nothing to back  up your claim

you weren't just talking out of your hp, were you?

thought so

BoffLaden

Not at all.  It is sad that you do not know the basic facts about the modern history of the political party you habitually support.  ANd to remind you of this, let's look at what Nixon's strategist said about the south and the general idea behind what i have posted here.

Quote

"The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats." (Kevin Phillips quoted in NYT 5.17.70)

BoffLaden, that is just how Phillips, Nixon's political strategist, claimed they were constructing the future of republican electoral strategy.

"It is sad that you do not know the basic facts..." blah, blah

I know the basic fact that  you are a fucking liar and an impotent toothless fraud without the guts to man up and admit your lies  ..... and a swishing flaming word fairy stupid enough to think that trying to change the subject will make people forget your blatant lies

your LIE, again:

"And most of those Southern Conservative democrats...like Strom Thurmond...became what?  That's right Republicans."  -hp
