Air Force halts $355 million contract targeted for Jacksonville

By David Bauerlein

The Air Force on Wednesday froze a $355 million contract that would generate 50 jobs in Jacksonville for assembly of a military plane — a contract cheered by city leaders when it was awarded last month.

The temporary stop-work order by the Air Force comes on the heels of litigation by Hawker Beechcraft Corp., a Kansas company contending it was wrongly excluded from the competition.

The Air Force said it expects to prevail in the suit pending before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

“The Air Force is confident in the merits of its contract award decision and anticipates that the litigation will be quickly resolved,” the statement said.

The contract went to Sierra Nevada Corp., which will use Brazil-based Embraer to assemble the planes at Jacksonville International Airport.

"Any president whose actions so consistently refute his own words must have deep contempt for the intelligence of the American public."

The Obama administration told U.S. owned Hawker Beechcraft earlier this week they are being excluded from bidding on the US Air Force contract for a light attack aircraft. That leaves Brazilian owned Embraer as the likely recipient of the lucrative deal. I found this one hard to believe so I did a little research. It was tough because this was completely ignored by the main stream media. The information is out there on several conservative sites. Please see the two articles linked below.
This is a double slap in the face of the United States. At a time when jobs, the economy, and security are the most critical priorities for our country, the Obama administration decides to send a defense contract to a foreign owned company.
This has to be the stupidest thing this administration has done to date. This is not just a dumb decision, it is a perfect example of why this president is such a poor leader. He talks about wanting jobs. He says we need to force companies to repatriate billions of dollars that Americans keep overseas. He wants to raise taxes so he can spend billions on stimulus that does nothing to stimulate anything.

And when it’s time to act, he sends our tax dollars overseas at the expense of American jobs and income for an American company. This is nothing more than a Chicago-style political pay back; but this time it is at the expense of our national security.

How much more damage will Obama be allowed to do in the next 12 months? One of the lead stories in the media this week blasted congress for insider trading. If this contract goes to Embraer it will be a huge pay off to another George Soros company.

When will the 4th estate do it’s constitutionally protected job and expose the real Obama to the American people?

We can no longer depend on the media to pass on any news that might be construed as negative towards the democrats.

It seems like the jobs are in Jacksonville.  The problem?  My "foreign car" was built in Tennessee.

......it would be a knock-down kit..........the parts are typically manufactured in one country or region, then exported to another country or region for final assembly........making the parts being the most lucrative part of the process......"Built in Tennessee" being the operative.....Nissan Gets $1.4 Billion DOE Loan for the Leaf EV......109-mile range car.......The loaded SL model, now priced at $33,720, will soar 10 percent to $37,250, a boost of $3,530.........certainly not a touring America car...... BooooorrrrriiiiiiinnnnnnGGGGG!

Rush told you Obma was a dictator so now if he breathes and raises his right hand after doing so, you wll claim it is a hitler like move. The jobs are in Jacksonville, seems like they stayed in America. What you need to do is go ask these city governments why they are providing TIFs and other tax free deals to foriegn companies to come here and build.

That's what the fourth estate needs to be working to end.

Again, not the issue.  My car, built in Tennessee, makes it possible for employment of folks in Tennessee, does it not?  And those are American jobs regardless of the home country of the company.

With regard to the Leaf, which is not the car i purchased, it was not made to be a touring car, was it.  As with other cars like  the Mitsubishi i, it is designed to deal with average American driving which is less than 42 miles round trip a day.

A study conducted by a Michigan "think tank" has added up the costs of the subsidies, tax credits, rebates and "incentives" for production of the GM Volt reveals that the 6,000 vehicles sold thus far have been produced at a taxpayer cost of $250,000 EACH!
Analyst: 'This might be the most government-supported car since the Trabant'

Trabant

James Hohman, of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy has analyzed the amounts of state and federal assistance for the assembly plants, the battery makers, the dealers and the buyers.

His analysis included 18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits. The amount of government assistance does not include the fact that General Motors is currently 26 percent owned by the federal government.

The analysis includes adding up the amount of government subsidies via tax credits and direct funding for not only General Motors, but other companies supplying parts for the vehicle. For example, the Department of Energy awarded a $105.9 million grant to the GM Brownstown plant that assembles the batteries. The company was also awarded approximately $106 million for its Hamtramck assembly plant in state credits to retain jobs. The company that supplies the Volt’s batteries, Compact Power, was awarded up to $100 million in refundable battery credits (combination tax breaks and cash subsidies). These are among many of the subsidies and tax credits for the vehicle.

The Mackinac Center for Public Policy is a privately supported research institute "dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Michigan residents by promoting sound solutions to state and local policy questions."

This has not gone unnoticed by government officials who do not quite agree with unlimited government support of certain industries and products.

“It just goes to show there are certain folks that will spend anything to get their vision of what people should do,” said State Representative Tom McMillin, R-Rochester Hills. “It’s a glaring example of the failure of central planning trying to force citizens to purchase something they may not want. … They should let the free market make those decisions.”

GM spokesman Greg Martin did not dispute the validity of the analysis, but tried to justify the "investments" by the Obama DOE and other agencies:

The investments provide [sic] by several different Administrations and Congresses to jump-start the country's fledgling battery technology and domestic electric vehicle industries (not just specifically for the Volt as Ford's offering will also use LG Chem batteries and Fisker will use the A123 system for example) matches the same foresight and innovation [sic] leadership that other countries are exhibiting and which America has historically taken pride in."

According to GM CEO Dan Akerson, the average Volt owner makes $170,000 per year.

Hohman, noting that he did not take into account other subsidies and incentives in his analysis, nonetheless offered the company an opportunity to challenge his analysis:

"This is a matter of simple math," said Hohman. "I added the known state and federal incentives that have been offered and divided by the number of Volts sold. If GM has additional information to add to the public data on the use of taxpayer money, I look forward to seeing it."

(Oh, lest we forget, we still own 26% of GM, and at today's stock price taxpayers are at least $16,500,000,000 in the hole!)
