Those who think me the apostle of the darkest, blackest, most 'brootal' metal or punk only are not getting a fully rounded picture of what I love, and here is another side of me: Frank Sinatra, especially his astounding 1966 live album with Count Basie and his Orchestra at the Sands, in Las Vegas--one of the best live albums of ANY kind, ANY genre:

Surely not the most overrated.

Yeah, I know, Mel Torme and Tony Bennett are probably better technically [especially the former], but neither had the same passion and personality.

Sinatra had a pleasant, expressive voice when he was younger, but he waited at least ten years too long to retire...and he was never good or distinctive enough to warrant the worship that one hears heaped upon him.

Sinatra was the first industry-fabricated idol. After him, people stopped deciding for themselves what musical talent was and started liking what the recording industry told them to like.

I never cared for him much.  His daughter was a hottie, though.  I always assumed Frank was an overrated, pretentious, racist (Sammy Davis, Jr. being treated as The Token Negro), and his lifestyle and morals and values offended me.
