I guess most people don't remember this but Pepsi did the same thing once.  This used to be a dot com. Like bad says, these things happen.

Kind of surprising though what with all of that moderation, supervision etc etc. 

I guess shielding those "in charge" from any criticism didn't result in the most efficient administration--go figure.  The Guardian, a great guy who I would have loved to meet, lost interest in the site, more of less gave it away and like public housing I suppose, it's new "owners" focused their attention on other things than maintenance.  The upside is that there are some outstanding posters over there who have the potential to contribute quite a bit to this site. 

I'm asking polaris, NRA and anyone else connected with the site to invite them here!  I realize that in NOPC terms, I'm a mere poster as are Polaris and NRA and an invitation from us may lack sufficient gravitas so I'm contacting the BIG FELLA himself (Pepsi) and asking him to do the same.  Of course Pepsi habitually leaps into action at my merest suggestion but it probably wouldn't hurt for others to PM him as well.

I feel really saddened by this, even though Doug drove me and many others out of there recently. That was a superb forum in its heyday, with a lot of first-rate people there.

Unfortunately, a managerial decision must have been made to make conservatives of a more vocal sort unwelcome there and become a more 'moderate' forum. First the appointment of vel as a mod, a farcical decision that had a predictable end, and then the even more disastrous appointment of the much smarter and cannier doug, who finally succeeded in driving so many established members out by the irresponsible abuse of his powers that the rate of daily posting dropped very sharply and suddenly.

Add to that the ridiculous amount of spamming and uncontrolled bots infecting the place, and the end was inevitable.

I predicted it all just before my departure, but by that time it was only stating the obvious.

This is what happens when you lose site of what you are and what you're trying to do. They lost sight of the fact that that was a conservative board where liberals were welcome to join, not a 'middle-of-the-road' board where conservatives had to keep looking over their shoulders to keep from having arbitary sanctions imposed upon them by doug.

And doug, if you're reading this: Good job! now you can brag to all your lefty friends how you infiltrated and brought down a forum full of stupid, overly-trusting, naive consevatives! You really scored one for the team! Mission accomplished!

The teachers pet over at NOPC and maybe the best left of center poster over there.  He would be a great addition to this website but he is not a personal fan to put it mildly.

He would fucking hate your guts which of course is why I'd love to see him come here.  It will be interesting to see if after all this time, how many of the NOPC posters would be willing to post without the protection afforded them by the moderators but he would be an awesome addition to this site were he to come.

A lefty they made a moderator, and who proceeded to change posts and headings of people he didn't approve of without warning or explanation. Naturally, that board was run in such an authoritarian way that all protests went completely unheeded and we were told to suck it up.

The incident that sparked the final exodus was the banning of Nixon--of of NOPC's finest and most productive posters--after he posted in open screen shots of the unauthorized changes Doug made to one of his posts, after he became exasperated when his protests to the mods got him nowhere. That's when Tipsy, JPT, me and others just up and left altogether, though I did keep a finger in now and then.

Doug didnt' do it.  The leadership did it to themselves when they violated their own constitution and perverted it to protect themselves from criticism.  I've remained silent on this topic because I value the current participation of NOPC members that are also posting here and also because it appealed to my sense of irony to see posters here that justified protecting themselves from criticism by claiming it would boost their membership.  They also claimed non moderated sites would run people off(!) while posting here in exactly the type of site they claimed would be rejected by others!

Anyway, if the desire to shield oneself from criticism is as strong as I think it is-they'll probably glue it back together some how...

What in the Hell is a Moderator doing in charge of the Admin Panel?  That's not bright at all.

   They ignored their own constitution and let moderators act as administrators.  At one time there were more moderators than regular posters...Guardian had it set up perfect and if they had stayed with what he'd built I'd like to think they'd still be goin' strong.

I've no idea what is going on or if it's permanent but I imagine Observer will notice this thread eventually and we'll get the scoop.
