They seem to believe they can force one, even a non-functional and bound to fail one, on those who have managed to succeed. From the comments here they seem to believe it is the obligation of the successful to provide for the unsuccessful, which is flawed thinking and will eventually result in collapse if you carry it out to its logical conclusion.

The truth is that we each owe it to our country to do our best and try to succeed and stand on our own. If that means taking a job pulling weeds in a tomato field, then pull weeds rather than take a hand out (pulling weeds is far better than some of the things I did to survive). If this was not happening the illegal aliens invading our country would not be able to find work! So long as we are all working and producing the economy will begin to recover. So long as we refuse to do the hard or unpleasant jobs and take the hand out the economy will falter. Taxation is not the solution, it is part of the problem.

badnews,

Since history shows this has never happened, your statement has no merit.

Wealth is made by people consuming. therefore if there is no one buying no one gets rich. Hence we are all in this together. If one part fails, the entire process fails.

You have accurately described the primary factor in Capitalism called "supply and demand."

You win one internets, sir!!

What spurs consumerism?  Greed.  The desire to "own" shit, not the "need."  Who are you blaming here?  The manufacturers who make this shit for the greedy people, or the greedy people who want, but not need, the shit?

Who determines price fool? That's where the greed comes in and its where you can blame the rich. When a 10 cent gallon of gas rises to 4 dollars per gallon there is something wrong. You are getting the same gallon of gas they got rich on when it was 10 cents per, yet now they charge 4 dollars and you are not getting any increase in volume.

It's sheer foolishness to try blaiming greed on those who are consumers. Most times a consumer needs what they purchase and their purchase is not driven by greed. As long as there are fools like you out there, the true greedy will get away with their greed and you will  let them.

Is there a reason that we spend on things we truly don't need?

This is  the age old battle of the consumer versus the producer.  Without  production there is nothing to consume.
A typical example of greed, to a extent, is my in laws.  They have every damned electronic toy you could imagine and yet cannot afford to get the car fixed or the washing machine fixed.  I'm tired of handing it out to such parasites.

Even a dirt dobber farm family who raises most of its food knows what comes first.  If you don't scratch you don't eat.  But welfare brats that live off a chick
don't have anything to scratch but their lice and fleas, maybe their anus.

Without consumption there is no need to produce. You can produce all you want but if noone wants what you produce, it changes to waste. I would not expect dumb old white men who lived their lives benefitting from segregation to understand how things actually work.

I've been doing a little more research on "social contract" since it's been a couple of decades since my outstanding class in jurisprudence. I had remembered that the concept is the whole underpinning for all of Western political philosophy.

I found it rather odd that you "conservatives" were mocking the foundation of all of Western political philosophy. But then again, you all hate the American people. You all hate the American consumer. You hate everything about American society and want only to turn back the clock to a time that never actually existed, but that you imagine must have been.

You are all traitors--you are devoted first to your perverse ideology which would encourage you to undermine our nation's prosperity just for political gain. You would, as DougRich pointed out, move the nation closer and closer to a military dictatorship. You hate democracy because you think the masses and popular culture are somehow "unpure" as all fascist movements have imagined.

So it would stand to reason that you would mock the entire underpinning of Western political thought, and that a complete moran like Obsurder would chime in with a mindless and idiotic "try reading the Founders" comment.

Yes, but did you actually find any information from your research?
