DHS Aircraft Aided In Massacre Of 73 Civilians

Homeland Security surveillance plane helped Jamaican police carry out atrocity

If you thought that the use of a Predator drone to target a family in rural North Dakota was overkill, wait until you hear what happened in Jamaica. The Department of Homeland Security aided Jamaican authorities in massacring 73 civilians as part of a botched drug raid conducted with the help of a DHS surveillance aircraft – before attempting to cover up the atrocity by refusing to release the footage.

“At the DEA’s insistence, Jamaican authorities reluctantly raided Tivoli Gardens, the West Kingston slum (Christopher) Coke ran as a de facto governor, two years ago. Coke didn’t turn up, but Jamaican police officers killed 73 civilians, many of them allegedly in cold blood. A Department of Homeland Security surveillance plane was overhead the whole time,” Gawker.

Both parties are together in this and it is up to anyone with half a brain who cares about this country to speak out against these drones being used.

Disgusting.

These being used against US citizens as well as others...

If you don't speak out about your liberties, you will indeed lose them all.

Enough is enough.

I think that "botched raid" is the key operator here.  Was it the wishof our people to kill innocent civilians?  I assume the drone was a surveillance a/c and not a killer drone.

As sad as it is, dissing LEOs for trying to get a handle on drug traffic is a dangerous process, even to law enforcement people.  So the advantage of eyes in the skies may help to save some other innocent people, our public servants.

I don't mean to be cold hearted, but the loss of 73 pales up side the misery and dying due to drugs.

In this instance, I think the whole drone issue is a distraction. The key sentence in the story, for me, was “At the DEA’s insistence, Jamaican authorities reluctantly raided..." Why is the DEA throwing its weight around in foreign jurisdictions, coercing the local authorities into raiding this or attacking that? By all means, stop the drugs at or near their source, before they reach America, but a raid that kills seventy-three people is a military action, not a law enforcement one. We have little to no say in how foreign governments want to police their own people, but we don't need to be encouraging actions the nature of which would not be tolerated in this country. (Although it doesn't hurt to remember that Ruby Ridge started with a couple of sawed-off shotguns.)

I take it you would rather be neighbors to a crack house or a family of drug addicts.  You harp on personal liberty, but it takes more than speaking out or mouthing off to preserve that liberty.  You being from a military family should understand that.

Why is it ok for our armed services to use drones against the bad guys but it is not ok for LEOs to use recon. drones for law enforcement? A lot of good people are being killed in the war on drugs, but I guess that is ok, is that it?

I think you need a priority check.

The extreme militarization of this country's police forces, and the understanding that the situation threatens the safety and security of every law-abiding citizen in a very real way, has begun to sink into the popular understanding in recent years. When a tiny town in the middle of Nowhere, Idaho has their own SWAT team, automatic weapons and armored vehicles...when the Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona sends officers out to serve misdemeanor warrants in a tank...I think it's natural to fear that the line between policing and war has been blurred in the minds of too many authorities. To a soldier, concern for innocent civilian life is often a luxury; to a civilian cop, it's an absolute mandate.

As for the drone issue, again, I think it's a distraction from the actual story, in this instance. In fact, I have no problem with their use, in cases where they can be used as a reconnaisance platform during the investigation of a serious, ongoing crime. I simply don't want to see them used to try to routinely spy on the general population - to see who has built an addition to their home without a permit, or has let their backyard swimming pool get too green; our Sheriff has used planes to do those very things, and practices like that strain the "plain view" rule to the breaking point.
