Based on his observation abilities back then, he reached a valid conclusion that supported the facts he gathered.  What facts did the Catholic Church have to support its premises?

Here is the problem he had regarding observation.  Lenses were not uniform in quality.  The replication of his observations were not as forthcoming as one would think.  The facts were not in his corner literally until there was uniform quality in lenses.

Nevertheless, the main issue was not heliocentrism, it was the application of this theory to biblical interpretation which would scandalize people of faith.  That was a serious concern back then.  And, quite frankly it was stupid.  As stupid as Mornac's apparent defense of the church by relying on the term universe when he knows, or at least should have known, that the term denoted only our solar system at that point in time (given the observational technology available).

I think you are completely wrong about Mornac's caring.  Much of his posts address the abuse of innocent people and the deviant sexual behavior of clerics.

notoc is exactly correct that Mornac does not care.  His concern is not with abuse victims, his concern is with promoting his sectarian vision of Catholicism and everything, everything takes a back seat to that.

Good news notoc. One less person perpetrating a "dangerous sham" on innocent people. You can rest easy knowing that these displaced workers are now out of harms way.

Nun slain in India faced threats from mine bosses

PATNA, India (AP) — The family of a Catholic nun hacked to death in eastern India says she had been threatened by coal mine bosses for defending the rights of local tribespeople.

The nun's family says Sister Valsa John was fighting on behalf of hundreds of people who had been displaced by mining operations in Jharkhand state.

Her brother M.J. Baby said Thursday that during a recent visit home John had complained she had received threats purportedly from local coal mine owners.

Jharkhand police said around 50 men had barged into the house where John, 53, was staying in Jharkhand's Pakur district. Her mutilated body was found by police Wednesday.

but hmmmm, India is a valued trading partner and Ally in the WOT sooooo no harm no foul.

The same something that tells you that a supposedly omnipotent, omnipresent god will sit back and do nothing while one of his wives is hacked to death?

The Almighty never Gave a Warrant for Perfection in this world. Indeed, He Tells us over and over that this world will be filled with Tribulation. I am simply grateful that He Restrains the evil of you and yours sufficiently to pervent everywhere all the time being a scene from lord of the flies.

You fucking moron and your stupid idea of a god.  One in 7 people living today do not have access to potable water.  Before you take off your shoes to count, that is about a billion people.  15 million children die of hunger every year.  About a third of the planet, a little over 2 billion people, suffer from starvation.  Fuck you and your belief in a ridiculously impotent god; fuck you and your disgusting belief that suffering is necessary.

God promised us an adventure, not a guided tour.

Sounds like we have uncovered a closet atheist,as I always suspected.  You can talk the talk, but can you walk  the walk? Obviously not.

You are a fraud, a typical communist that says we pay homage only to the state.

If you sincerely believed in God then it would motivate you to do his bidding, to help those in need, but no, you would rather poison gullible students with your perverted world view. Your just reward is coming Joan, in fact you are already reaping what you sow, hatred and ridicule.  You have no one to blame but yourself for that monkey on your back.

What are you babbling about?  What about my statement suggests anything of "atheism"?

I think you are completely wrong about Mornac's caring.  Much of his posts address the abuse of innocent people and the deviant sexual behavior of clerics.

I agree with him in that morals in America are not as strong as they once were, even in my time.  I think that TV and the sexual revolution, so to speak, has  unloosed a damaging trend on our moral fiber. This old bit that anything goes is demonstrated day after day in the news to be completely wrong headed.

There was a time when people were more inhibited and were afraid of the consequences of acting up, but no more. The courts seem to favor the bad guys, and maybe it is because our jails are overflowing with the idiots.  I look for things to get even worse but I am certainly not criticizing Mornac for wanting things to turn around.

One can say that God fearing people also have their faults and make mistakes, but it is patently obvious to me that those who sincerely practice their faith and try to do right are much better quality people than those who are constantly bending the norms of society.  I see it every day at the coffee shop, and since I know the background of a few of the scumbags that come in there I can readily see the difference in their quality compared to the ones that are true believers.

As an example, I used to work at a part time job with one of the crooks that comes to coffee, and he doesn't sit with anyone unless he brings his own rabble with him. He had done time in the state pen twice for theft, and to show you an example of how low this guy is, he stole a transmission from a little car right out in a parking lot.

No one may be perfect, and many may do wrong in some way, but Christ recognized that when he presented his plan of forgiveness.  Kudoos to Mornac for trying to live it right and for wanting this country to clean up its act and live by a code that is in their best interests to do so.

You are wrong.  Mornac only has one interest and it isn't molested children.
