‘In God We Trust’: House reaffirms national motto — yet again

In Congress, a really good law is like a really good movie. If audiences liked it the first time, they’re going to love a remake — or two.

That appeared to be the logic Tuesday evening as the House debated whether “In God We Trust” should be the national motto. Of course, “In God We Trust” already is the national motto, guaranteed by an act of Congress in 1956.

And “In God We Trust” had already been reaffirmed once before as the national motto, by another act of Congress in 2002.

Still, on Tuesday, the House spent 35 minutes debating whether the motto should be re-reaffirmed.

Many lawmakers threw their heart into the debate, even though it was a remake of a remake — its outcome as predetermined as the end of the third King Kong movie.

“Is God God? Or is man God? In God do we trust, or in man do we trust?” said Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.). He was laying out the deeper meaning behind this debate — saying it was a chance for the House to reassert that it believes there is divine goodness and order in the universe.

If there isn’t, Franks said, “we should just let anarchy prevail because, after all, we are just worm food. So indeed we have the time to reaffirm that God is God and in God do we trust.”

Obama.......said:
"What have you guys been debating, John [Boehner]? You've been debating a commemorative coin for baseball? You have legislation reaffirming that "In God We Trust" is our motto. That's not putting people back to work."

The House of Representatives passed the concurring resolution by a margin of 396 - 9 on Tuesday night, with two members voting "present."

The official summary of the resolution says its purpose is: "Reaffirming “In God We Trust” as the official motto of the United States and supporting and encouraging the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions."

UPDATE 12:57: White House Press Secretary Jay Carney defended Obama's decision to criticize Congress over the 'In God We Trust' vote in his press briefing: "I believe the phrase from the Bible is 'The Lord helps those who help themselves,'" he said.

The problem: The line does not appear in the bible.

Moral to the story is: Know your book before you quote it...... Grin .....he would have been better off quoting Sophocles who wrote "No good e'er comes of leisure purposeless; And heaven ne’er helps the men who will not act."......hopefully it was just an error on his part, quoting a saying that he has heard before as being from the Bible.......but if he did it maliciously he is held accountable.......

Quote
Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

a pointless and stupid response to Pepsi's post.  The point of his post
was that your beloved repugnicans in congress are fiddling while Rome
burns.  Who cares about the bible?  Nobody.  Not even you.  So why
are your buds wasting your time and my money on this drivel?  Is this
what they are paid for?  No.  No jobs from the republicans.  Just garbage.
Like your response.

35 minutes... that is less time than it takes Obama to play a round of golf or Michelle to feed her face.

Most politicians in office today do not care about anyone or anything but themselves and their own inner circle...they are not helping those who are taking the brunt of the situation economically and otherwise in this country and are allowing outside influences to shape the course of history for our own country at the same time....very sad really. We could have deserved better if we had been thinking instead of watching TV, etc.

Look at corporations getting millions of dollars of fed money and taking this and running...Peloshi's in-laws? Solyndra? Corzine? etcetc..Saying one trusts in God and doing what is ungodly to others doesn't cut it.

They worship at the altar of the Almighty Dollar lucy.  Heaven to a politician is a nice cush position with a major corp who helped put them in office in the first place.

When I hear our two Senators mouthing on and on about the pork they are rolling into Kansas it gripes my butt.  We will never get the debt under control that way.

There are two major blocs or industries that they support in Kansas, the farm bloc and the military, which includes a few active bases plus defense contractors. The mega farmers don't need their subsidies with commodity prices being what they are, and we don't need a Chinese army that has been impotent up against ragheads with IEDs.

More conservative stupidity,

But not quite as much  time as it took for Bush to go on one of his many vacations during the wars he started.

Even more,

These mega farmers are conservatives with their mouths open at the government teet for billions of dollars.  Kinda like you were  ivan. You were a farmer at one point weren't' you? And your chinese army only exists in China. IEDS are improvised devices ivan. Improvised meaning made up on the spot. Probably the toughest thing to defend against.

Stop listening to those idiots at fox news.
