Then why keep their participation a secret?

Actually the defunding of ACORN was a good thing.  Taxpayers should not be paying for the advocacy of other taxpayers on ANY government level.  YOU are free however to post receipts for all of your donations to this "worthy" group.

As part of a re-branding effort by ACORN leadership, ACORN International changed its name in 2010 to Community Organizations International. As part of the effort by some chapters to stay afloat by severing ties with the national organization, California ACORN changed its name to Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, New York ACORN renamed itself New York Communities for Change, and an offshoot of the ACORN organization called Acorn Housing changed its name to Affordable Housing Centers of America yet has retained the same tax and employee identification numbers that it held under its former name.

I like how What Used To Be ACORN touted itself as an unbiased bipartisan group.
