Jeffress called Perry a “genuine follower of Jesus Christ.” The pastor did not mention Perry’s rival Mitt Romney by name, but he told reporters after his remarks on Friday that Mormonism was a “cult.”

Jeffress’ comments and his endorsement of Perry threatened to inject some tension into what has been a relatively quiet year for religion on the campaign trail and the Perry campaign sought to quiet the uproar.
The campaign’s official comment on Jeffress evolved quickly on Friday afternoon. When initially asked by ABC News whether Gov. Perry agreed that Mormonism is a cult, Perry spokesman Mark Miner said: “The governor doesn’t judge what is in the heart and soul of others. He leaves that to God.”

What does this Colored Colloquialism of "Walked this back" supposed to mean?

Is that something like "Doing the Dozen?"

You live in a microcosm dipshit, so I got news for you.  Everyone does not know what that means.  The world doesn't revolve around your elitist ass so get used to it.

How is the use of a relatively common idiom "elitist"?

Yea, we knew this was coming indeed.    Let's see if and how Perry goes for this angle with the evangelical holier than thou voters (aka the GOP base).   My bet is he himself will take the high road while letting his surrogates go for the Mormonism is a cult line.

Personally I think if Mormonism is a cult so is Catholicism, Protestantism, Judaism,  Muslimism, etc, etc

The term cult, strictly speaking, refers only to a system of religion and its worship.

ivanm,

This is unrelated but since you live in the part of the country I was born in (Wichita KS) I wondered if you had heard an expression my Mom always used.

"Everyone has their own little bag of rocks to carry."

She used it often when she was less than sympathetic to any excuses I might have made for this or that transgression.  It is a marvelous expression I often use but have discovered no one else doing so or even that has heard of it.

Have YOU ever heard that particular expression?

The most successful men I know will tell you that they are only successful because they are able to accept ‘no’ and not take it personally. Again, unsuccessful men take a ‘rejection’ as a personal assault on their inner child. Don’t make this mistake.
