I'm sure this will be a source of debate and argument for decades.

What is unclear to me is why these people who were so Gung-Ho about being in the Middle East when Bush was at the helm are relatively silent now?

Where is Cindy Sheehan?
Maybe they thought it would be a cake walk?

The idiots already have nukes in Pakistan and their government is simply playing along with us to get the billions in aid we give them each year.
Taliban run the joint and not the puppet government we helped to install with Karzai.  We need to take his God damned visa away from him and then maybe he would get serious about cleaning house at home rather than being paid to let us try and do it.

At least in Iraq the new government seems to be  trying to make amends and get the country settled down, but in Afghanistan and Pakistan we wore out our welcome when the little drones started pasting the asses of the friggin terrorist leaders. I say tough shit rag heads, bring em on.

Afghanistan takes pride in  not letting western influence in and is now dealing with Chinese on selling them their REEs, which we badly need. How much blood has China shed in that hell hole?  That should  tell you how friggin dumb our military policy "experts" are.  Damn, they must be philosophy majors.   Cool

I think that our sticking around in Afghanistan after the first few weeks of relative success is a mistake, and a very costly one in terms of blood and recources.

If we are going to take on the terrorists then we need to pick the playing field so that we can utilize our heavy gear on flat land, as in Iraq.  In Afghanistan even the choppers have a time of it with the wind currents that come up from the rough terrain.

I am not especially supportive of our screwing around in Somalia and in Yemen with boots on the ground, but if it should come to that and we can stay on the flatter terrain then mahybe we can make a better showing there than in Afghanistan.

As to going into Pakistan big time, forget it

By the way, this morning's hme page, which is msnbc.com, is reporting that we have killed one of thosle ghoulish looking freaks in Yemen.  He was apparently a high level Al Qaeda type.

You really are that stupid aren't you?  The government of Pakistan, like our own, is made up of different constituencies and audiences.  Much of the elected government and military are with us and the quest for stability in the region.  Some in the government, military and the ISI are not.  And the reasons for this go back to the 1980s when we used them to funnel aid to the mujahideen.  We created and forged those alliances and they persisted to this day.  It is these people that you do not want in charge of the nukes and keeping them from it means fighting the Islamicists.

The government is nothing without our military behind it.  Following your advice would mean, as i stated previously, a failed state and much more regional instability.

It is not the terrorists that the people are concerned about; it is the 48 innocent people taken out for every one guilty guy.

We should never have gone into Afghanistan.  It is that simple.  Getting out is much more difficult.

You are the one that is dense.  They are playing us john, like a cheap fiddle.

As in most other states that host terrorists, the official government of Pakistan is basically impotent against the terrorists and are often too timid to do anything about them
for fear of retailaition .  I think that Mr. Musharraf was the last Pak leader that was sincerely on our side, and once the extremist elements gave him the boot things went down hill from that point.

You further display your ignorance in the closing sentence of your post saying we should never have gone into Afghanistan, as if that would mean a more stable govenment in Pakistan.   Rather than mouthing off to hear your ass ratttle you need to think about what you are going to say.  Maybe you need to borrow Obama's teleprompter and let IM2 write the script for you.

You just do not know what you are talking about.

You would do yourself well if you stopped what you call thinking.  It is not working very well for you.

A more stable government in Afghanistan does not mean a more stable government in Pakistan. If anyone showed ignorance , it was you.

Then again we have come to expect this from you, old stupid white man who has gotten everything he has from handouts given to whites during segregation.

LOL.
That idiot doesn't realize that there was no segregation where I grew up because it was an all white community. In fact, the only blacks in the entire county lived at the county seat.

I guess this fool never questioned why his town was all white.

Bush sent troops into afghanistan and then made certain there were not enough resources for them to get the job done. All of this whining from right wingers who were all in support of the Bush invasion should just be ignored.
