Amendment to ban gay marriage may be put on state ballot

By Paul Woolverton
Staff writer

North Carolina's legislators appear poised to put a gay marriage ban on the ballot in 2012.

Beryl Richard Allen Walter-Jernigan, front, poses with
Benzion Richard C. Jernigan. The couple were united
in a civil union ceremony in Vermont in June of 2002.

The General Assembly plans to meet for at least three days this week to consider a marriage control amendment to the state constitution, along with two other amendments. If three-fifths of the Republican-controlled legislature agrees, the issues would be put to voters in a statewide referendum next year.

Legislators also may attempt to override several of the governor's earlier vetoes. The session starts at noon Monday.

The gay marriage amendment would say that a state-approved marriage contract must be confined to one man and one woman.

North Carolina law already prohibits state-sanctioned gay marriage. The marriage control amendment would create a bigger barrier against efforts to bring government-approved gay marriage to the state.

That would be great!  Actually 50 statewide bans of gay marriage would be outstanding!  Second best would be gay marriage ban amendments in "borderline", "purple" or "swing" states.  Cool

The most successful men I know will tell you that they are only successful because they are able to accept ‘no’ and not take it personally. Again, unsuccessful men take a ‘rejection’ as a personal assault on their inner child. Don’t make this mistake.

Oh my foodserver, Obama visited 57 states, so you have left some out.  Grin
I think the old sodomy laws need to be dusted off and enforced again.   Hell, Obama has found another 7 states where the flakes could flee too.

Or we could put them in "protective custody" in the state pens, and turn the cons loose on them.     Roll Eyes
