Maybe the Catholics' problem is the "institional" complexion of the church, be it the old structures or the new ones.  When a group uplifts and worships its clerical leaders then they just don't get it.  That reminds me of some of the fundie Protestant churches worshipping Paul, who was a reluctant hold out from Judaism.

--The “institutional” complexion of the Church has clearly been marred by a load of self serving perverts and demented theologians who managed to peddle a theology that is contrary to Church teaching. Some of them have already paid the price by getting themselves excommunicated. Many more are currently on notice. Yes, the administration of the hierarchy has gone through a rough half-century. It cannot be described as anything less than shameful. Thank God that the current Pope is working tirelessly at undoing much of the damage. It’s not a job that can be accomplished overnight. I pray that his successors will be able to continue the restoration.

--Obviously. That’s why God gave us the First Commandment and that’s why Christ’s church identifies such worship as a mortal sin.

--Don’t know all that much about fundie Protestant churches.

I am glad to see that church officials are trying to get things squared away.  Glad for you and for my Catholic friends.
