...without observer around?  vell,  i say you extend that 14 days.  there's actual discussion going on.  no one is in lockstep;  there's respectful disagreement and quite a bit of insight and humour.

as it should be.

peace

Kinda seems like no observer, no ivan.  This board is better because people are not so angry at Observers arrogance. Perhaps Observer will learn over the course of the next 2 weeks that he can be shut up, and that he does have to comply with rules, instead of thinking he can bully veryone into "submitting" to him. If he can do that, he is actually a decent guy.

Ivan on the other hand.......

I know his type. I live with them every day here in the "great" state of Kansas.

Observer will never learn guys.

Yeah, I've noticed how much better this place is without him. How can I not notice?

I have tried to have a discussion with him because he PM'd me at NoPC. He ended up violating NoPC's rule that no one can post the substance of a PM.

There is no talking to this man. He thinks John is the anti-Christ and that I have somehow come under John's spell and because I have not allowed him, Observer, to be the messiah Newsrake is doomed and it's all my fault.

 Grin

So what can I tell you? I committed to the 14 days. How do I rationalize making it permanent without giving him a chance to fail? I am thinking about this suggestion because he's not going to improve. Leopards don't easily change their spots and the man is more irate than ever.

Maybe I just do it? Talk to me some more.

Observer really wants to come back.. Remember when he was reinstated here not too long ago..he was chomping at the bit and began posting almost hourly and built up quite a huge collection of posts in a short time.  I always felt his posts were of little substance ie redundant, somewhat nasty I guess mostly out of fustration.

I think IVANM is old school and beyond redemption.

Somewhat nasty?

What more, pray tell, would he need to do to be more than just somewhat nasty?

He wasn't reinstated. He left. No one ever before said he couldn't come back.

Consider that Observer doesn't think he's doing anything nasty or wrong. He thinks it's all being done to him. There's no compromise. There's no half way point. There's no commitment from him and no accountability. In his mind we need to change to accommodate him.

So what do we have to work with here?

Let's be clear about his previous exit, he popped his own balloon there.  No one forced him to leave and he was not banned.  i know that was not the point of your post, i just wanted to make that clear.

But yes, it is most pleasant without him.  Hell, even nra made a productive post.

Give him teh chance to fail, then when he does, you can say that you gave him every chance in the world and your conscience is clear.

I'd consider participating again if they are gone, otherwise if they come back, what I said before stands...best wishes to all:)

You aren't the only one who doesn't want to post here because of him. I am certainly considering that J, and I certainly want you back. Smiley

So in the PMs I get an expected stream of belligerent nonsense from this guy.

I have disregarded most of it and I have cut right to the chase with him. He is to tell me if he's ready to change and be a decent person. All he is to say is "yes" if that's the case. Another long stream of bullshit is going to be deemed to be a no, even if a yes is embedded into it. No answer will be deemed to be a no.

I don't see why this place needs to be a shit hole like NoPC, or why he needs to be allowed to make into that. I left NoPC for a reason. A lot of people aren't posting here for a reason. Either he's going to be civil or there is no reason for him to be here.

As Malone says there is little substance to his posts. There's about 10 days left on the ban. I'm thinking if I don't get a clear yes by then, there's no point in letting him back in.

Any thoughts?

They are PMs. Observer has violated his own rule by publishing my PM to him and he's denying that is a violation of his rule. It's wrong to publish a PM. The rule that no one publishes a PM is a good rule and I don't think I should violate it.

Observer's violation doesn't justify reciprocation.

Suffice it to say that the insults are the usual. No insight is to be gained by viewing any of it.

Seems fair enough to me.
