On the heels of a new poll suggesting that nearly one in five Americans incorrectly believes that President Obama is a Muslim, one of the nation's most prominent evangelical leaders has weighed in with a seemingly lukewarm endorsement of the president's Christian faith.

The Rev. Franklin Graham waded into the discussion with his own controversial explanation of why people wrongly believe the president is a Muslim. Graham, who prayed with Obama in a session with his father, Billy Graham, earlier this year, was asked whether he has any doubts about Obama's self-avowed Christian faith.

"I think the president's problem is that he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim. The seed of Islam is passed through the father like the seed of Judaism is passed through the mother. He was born a Muslim, his father gave him an Islamic name," Graham told CNN's John King in a televised interview that aired Thursday night.

"Now it's obvious that the president has renounced the prophet Mohammed, and he has renounced Islam, and he has accepted Jesus Christ. That's what he says he has done. I cannot say that he hasn't. So I just have to believe that the president is what he has said," Graham continued, adding that "the Islamic world sees the president as one of theirs."

The problem is that Franklin Graham is a jackass.  Here are his false statements:

1. ""I think the president's problem is that he was born a Muslim, his father was a Muslim."

Quote

"My father was almost entirely absent from my childhood, having been divorced from my mother when I was 2 years old; in any event, although my father had been raised a Muslim, by the time he met my mother he was a confirmed atheist, thinking religion to be so much superstition."

2. "Now it's obvious that the president has renounced the prophet Mohammed, and he has renounced Islam, and he has accepted Jesus Christ.  That's what he says he has done."

How is it possible to renounce a religion in which one is not born and raised?

...while referring to other protestant preachers as “a jackass”?

Just wondering.

Mornac

And by passive aggressive, i mean cowardly.  i referred to Franklin Graham as a jackass, but i do not know what the term "ecumaniac" means nor do i know what you mean by "embrace the heresy of vicious anti-Semites like Martin Luther".  Are you addressing me?  If so explain what you mean and i will be glad to fully respond.

All of this is because Obama is black. Racist whites do not want to believe that a black man is president. What Franlklin Graham has to say is irrelevant, and its a show of white racism to discount what blacks have said, then post up bullshit from a white preacher to explain something. At last check Franklin Graham had not lived one second of his life black. So he does not have an accurate explanation of why people are making such claims. Not as long as he discounts racism.

- can hardly believe there is an asshole in this world who would say such an ugly thing.

All of this is because Obama is black.

Not all. At least part of it is some kind of psychological disorder, possibly related to Tourette's.

Really?  Come on, you have seen the crap posted at headbutters and other places.  This is hardly the ugliest or the most vile.  Hell Mornac has posted some uglier things as well.

Of course that this bullshit drips from the mouth of a man who claims to be a Christian minister i guess it could seem more shocking.  Apparently his dear old dad, another waste of human skin, never told him what false witness means.

I think the vilest part is not as much the opinion itself, but rather the attitude. I think it's particularly obnoxious and the height of arrogance for a human being to believe they know "truth" and that they have acquired some kind of monopoly.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

i don't think either Graham's false witness or Mornac's replication of that false witness (and Mornac's later apparent attempt to smear me when it is in fact Mornac who posts antisemitic bile) is good intentioned.

I don't claim to know, but then I believe it's relative.

I think well intentioned people can easily get caught up in their own bullshit.

Today’s must-read comes from law professor, Ramzi Kassem, in which he explains clearly and succinctly why the religious “othering” of President Obama (as a secret Muslim) is really part and parcel of the racialization of Islam. In other words, since overt and blatant racial othering of the President would be too obvious (and would seem unacceptable to millions), religious othering stands in as a proxy. But still, ultimately, it’s about race and white supremacy.

--Wow! You must really dislike Muslims!

You didn’t, however, comment on the more interesting remark:

"Now it's obvious that the president has renounced the prophet Mohammed, and he has renounced Islam, and he has accepted Jesus Christ. That's what he says he has done. I cannot say that he hasn't. So I just have to believe that the president is what he has said."

I don’t know much about this character other than that Obama made a pilgrimage to his father’s home where he met and prayed with them and accepted a Bible from them. I assume that would make him a friend, although I wouldn’t put it past Obama to try and put one over on him, his dad, and the American people. In any case, I’m willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt and buy that he went to visit these guys on the basis of some sort of friendship. If this Graham jamook is telling us what he heard his friend say then I think it should be believed until Obama says otherwise. I don’t care much for Obama, but I’m not going to run around saying that his friends are liars unless he gives me a good reason for doing so.

--I agree, but as I was just telling Pepsi, we won’t know whether or not he is telling the truth unless Obama either confirms or denies it.
