What part of not impeding the free exercise of religion does Gingrich not understand?

Of course it's not at ground zero. It's a block away which, in NYC, is a long way.

But what better demonstration could we make of who and what we are? It seems the "conservatives" are revisiting their anti-Muslim roots.

Haters gotta hate.

Right.  It is a couple of blocks away.  What amazes me is that no one calls him on this bullshit and simply ask him why he wants the US to be like Saudi Arabia.

It shouldn't matter if it was exactly at ground zero. In fact if it was exactly at ground zero it would be a testament to the sorrow Muslims felt for that atrocious action committed by some fundamentalist muslim nutcases on 9-11.

Oh, for real Americans, those of us who believe in the free exercise of religion, for example, it is not an issue at all.  On the other hand, for a guy who needs to attract the right wing of the right wing, there is no question but that we must emulate the Saud regime.  Wonder how they treat men who abandon their wives and kids?

Gingrich probably better stay out of any presidential campaign. Any man who divorces his wife while shes on a hospital sickbed is not someone who I want to be president. He could have waited to divorce his wife after she left the hospital and I would have no problem with that. But what he did shows a serious lack of morals, and in a party that claims to be the moral compass of this nation nominating a leader such as Gingrich would show real hypocrisy. Of course we know republicans are hypocrites, but...

Can one of you genuises tell me how not being permitted to build a mosque in a specific location in any way prohibits the "free exercise" of religion?

No, of course you can't.

the conservative/bigoted/anti-Muslim stance on this disgusts me.    We should let this mosque be built as testament to our profound belief in the ideal of free exercise of religion this country was founded on, as testament to the fact that the extremists have not shaken our ideals and as an embrace of non-extremist Muslims who are behind this initiative.

Let's be clear, there is no mosque being built.  It is a community center.
