Many of the posters at nopc are very hard headed and reactionary.  Seldom do I see a proposal to resolve an issue, just a bunch of condescending rhetoric.

There are a few people that are pretty down to earth when they are not acting macho in the political sense.

It appears that the growth of Muslims in the Euro countries is due in large part to immigration.  We may have the same thing here with Mexican immigrants.

What I see in this issue is a gradual decline in the standard of living that we have built over decades, perhaps centuries. It is silly to get into a birthing race unless you prefer quantity of life over quality of life.

I don't think that fewer abortions will change the figures much because the abortion rate for white women is very low and apparently continues to drop.

Our "culture" has been the same for much more than 25 years and I will bet that the Euro culture is centuries old.  Lower birth rates have been with us for decades now as the cost of having and raising children is just too much to be having a whole raft of kids.

How does the war hurt America? I must have misseed something.

Although Mexico continues to account for the most immigrants, the numbers as a percent are dropping, and the number of Chinese have more than doubled over the past 10 years   http://www.migrationinformation.org/Feature/display.cfm?id=730

To what do you attribute the 'gradual decline in the standard of living that we have built over decades'?

This guy guardian really revealed himself during the 2008 campaign as low life racist white trash from Kansas.

There is a basic fact about humanity and it has nothing to do with religion.   Poorer people have more babies than richer people.   Poorer cultures have more babies than richer cultures.   White people had more babies when their culture was poorer.   Japanese have less babies today and they have amongst the highest incomes in the world.

Why is that?   We can discuss it, but it has nothing to do with one's religion.

Neither of you present that part of the country in any kind of a positive light.

I was speaking of what I see ahead in the future if Muslims and Mexicans dominate the scene.  Look at the quality of life in Iraq and in Afghanistan.  How many of us live in mud huts with no modern amenities such as lites, gas, running water and sanitary sewers?  Maybe to their way of thinking they are living as the wish, but a meager existence is not for me.

I assume the high birthing rate amongst Mexicans is due to their religious views of not using contraceptive measures.  As to Muslims, I don't know anything about them or their birthing rates but I don't see how a family could support a large number of people with the skimpy resources they seem to have. Is the Islamic countries there are two castes or classes of people, the very rich and the very poor and this can be seen from the travel movies and the newsreels.  If they were to migrate to America I wonder how they would do.  Given the skills to make a nice living, they might do quite well, but something tells me the mosque message is to keep these people desperate and dependent on the Islamic leaders for their meager existence.

It appears that the native population of the Euro countries is being overwhelmed by immigration and not by a faster birthing rate of Muslims.  Trying to out birth that would be pretty dumb IMO.  Solution, cut down on the immigration rate.

I think you are wrong Pepsi.  Catholics don't believe in contraceptives but they still like to have sex.  Connect the dots.  I think it is wrong headed policy in the modern world but let me lay a country boy theory on you about the rationale behind the Catholic policy.  In the early days of Christianity, even for another 300 years in Rome, it was imperitave that the new religion grow in numbers if it was to survive.  I think that has a bearing on the policy of not using contraceptives.

Why do poorer people have more babies?  I don't disagree and am wanting your input.

I don't want to diss the guy because I still post over there, but I tend to agree with you in that he is pretty head strong.

Perhaps the underlying motivation for right wingers is racial prejudice, the desire to preserve the status quo and not let the minorities enroach further into their domains?  That is human nature but not the best kind.
A lot of what you see at nopc is posturing and macho stuff, even from the female posters.  I guess the forum gives them a place to hang out and blow off steam.   EZ is getting to be the same way as there are two people that dominate the scene and do little more than disrupt the forum.  It is no wonder so few go there anmore.

Is there such a thing as a centrist or pragmatic forum?  I doubt it as it seems one must have an axe to grind in order to have a popular forum.  Either right wing or left wing, but nothg in the middle.  Centrists are criticized for having no prinicples but in reality much of our legislation is a compromise between the left and the right.
That tells me that centrists and pragmatists are more realistic about what can be accomplished than the libs and the cons are.

We have to distinguish between the church leadership and the flock though.   Catholics actually do believe in using contraceptives, the priests don't

more than 75% of U.S. Catholics believe the church should allow the use of contraception, according to a recent Gallup poll (Roylance, Baltimore Sun, 4/10)

I am speculating but I think there are a variety of reasons.   Richer people tend to be more educated.  Educated wealthier people tend to be more selfish, and also want their kids to have a better life.     Cost of raising children in first world countries is much more expensive than in the third world.    Lastly, and maybe most importantly:  when you're dirt poor living in the third world, the more kids you have the more help you have in your family, to work the family farm or support the parents, and the more chance you have that one of your kids will make something out of themselves.

Personally I strongly disagree with the catholic church and religious types, I think birth control aught to be promoted and encouraged.   There are way too many unwanted children born to parents who can't take care of them in this world.

This is absolutely correct.  The higher the standard of living, the higher the level of education, etc the lower the birth rate.

Is it selfish to want a quality number of children rather than a quantity of brats you cannot afford to give an even start in life?  I don't think so.  There is such a thing as being socially responsible. My first father in law birthed himself away from a place at the table and the kids carry the marks even today.

Small children are of very little help and teenagers, at least in America, are even less because their hormones are working overtime.
