Wow! A little testy today. We all have an opinion and generally it's in opposition of someone else's opinion.  Opinions are neither right nor wrong they are just opinions.  And over the years Truelies has never been afraid to express his nor have you.

I don't think testy is the right word here Rebecca.

Some opinions are malicious and pernicious. For example, the kind of bigotry and hate spewed on this very board by Ivan, Truelies, and Holly is more than "just opinions." Another destructive "opinion," IMHO, comes in the form of disinformation like "creation science" and "supply-side economics." Also the denialism with respect to climate change is very destructive and could end up playing a role in the ultimate extinction of our species.

There's not a lot I can do with someone who is a bigot and feels good about being that way. Someone who insists upon being malicious like that deserves to be shouted down, rejected, and shunned.

You are so right. The truth stands alone and it smarts doesn't it.  Bigots may be unyielding in their opinions but that doesn't make them wrong. I have heard you diss me and Holley and anyone else who makes a stand against the Israeli  bigotry but  I cannot remember you coming right out and supporting their aggression. Even a damned Jew lawyer isn't that dumb.

Your snake oil doesn't sell to anyone but desperate useful idiots like johnhp and he doesn't count in the real world because he is way out in la la land with his obstinance.  YOu might have a better time of it if you stopped running with the losers and ran with a winn once in a while.  The fact that America and her democratic allies won the Cold War should ring bells for you.  Socialism is a failed ideology in case you haven't figured that out, so stop spinning your wheels and making a jackass out of yourself.

Too, Rebecca, notice how easy it is to set off a truly malicious poster and to get them to self-discredit.  Smiley

Is the objective here to set people off?

I have no agenda. Setting off an ignoramus is just a side benefit.  Smiley

I haven't heard that word used in eons. I've been reading a bit here and there on the board and it appears that not many of you get along here.  How does this place survive with so much strife? Even sweet Lucy seems to get her share of barbs here.

Strife?  People disagree.

With regard to Lucy, when she is wrong, she is wrong.

Of course people disagree.  I see that many times it goes beyond disagreeing though. We all are wrong about things from time to time. Why do some resort to name calling?  What benefit is derived from such behavior?  Makes me ask myself if I really want to post here.

The behavior of Ivan and Truelies is atrocious. Holly isn't as bad but she is plenty obnoxious.

I have no room in my life for hateful bigots. None. Zero.

You would have to ask folks like ivan about that.

Ivan is particularly obnoxious and odious with his reckless use of irrational epithets.

I have used a few myself. I am loathe to turn off someone like Becca, but on the other hand there is no way to deal with someone like Ivan or Holly without ignoring them or telling them that they are obnoxious twits.

I generally don't talk to Ivan but that doesn't deter him from being an obnoxious twit, for no good reason. Holly continues to try to goad me into discussing her disinformation with her, giving it a dignity it doesn't deserve.

I am not aware that I have called Lucy any names but if I have I am sorry. It would be nice, IMHO, if Lucy would follow up on discussions. She sees fit to make a lot unfounded conclusions but then doesn't answer questions regarding those conclusions.

That doesn't make her an obnoxious twit like Ivan or Holly though.  Smiley

Vell

i generally like Lucy.  but i really get frustrated with the notion that a discussion can clear things up with people who refuse to acknowledge basic facts.

And the conspiracy stuff is really freaky.

Now that observer is gone she is the only remaining mod that is not a slobbering liberal. Lucy is much too kind to deserve the treatment she is now receiving.  What you see  here is mob rule where people gang up on someone to drum them off the forum.

So why not ignore those you don't care to deal with?  The back and forth banter with them just continues to add fuel to an already no win conversation. You are never going to change their view points nor will they change yours.  Seems like such a waste of energy to me. But what do I know... I suppose if you all put each other on ignore you'd have no one to converse with.  Wink

And so again I ask, why not 'ignore' them?

I'd have to go back and look but I remember reading something one night on here and thinking you were being a bit abrasive with Lucy. Surprised me that you would speak to her in such a way since I thought you two were pretty good friends or had been. Perhaps I misread what you were really saying though.

I ignore Ivan. I could ignore Holly and Truelies and may get to that point yet.

People argue sometimes, true.

Frankly, it isn't the argument itself that wears me out, but the deliberate attempt to distract anything from a discussion about issues happening in the world that affect US as a nation without having to bring along a lot of extra baggage from other countries, at the moment, unless those countries have the ability to bring us down financially and otherwise in any real way...we are fighting wars that are truly suspect in their origins and their continuing reason to be, imo. We never go there realistically. Most of the time we don our armor of whatever SIDE we happen to be on and fuss away without seeing the future implications or at least trying to see the consequences of our real actions in the world....this is too painful for us, perhaps, to contemplate. Namely, that the US is making huge mistakes which will have grave consequences.

We need objectivity and less divisiveness if we are indeed AMERICANS first and together at all in this boat of ours.

Perhaps you should read this thread.  Read it carefully.

You are right about the way certain people are treating Lucy.  I tried defending her until I realized I was defending an eagle from a canary.
