The benefits do not go into effect until 2013...so, it isn't for the ones who are dying from lack of insurance or going bk, imo.

I imagine big changes such as this need time to get things in order before they can be "in place". Hence, the sooner we get moving in the right direction the better imo. We can't wait another generation, and what president or congress is going to want to deal with this issue again?

What is the big deal about steroids? Ask Lyle Alzado. He claims taking steroids make him one mean son of a bitch. That is what we need.

Yes. It is a brave new future that awaits us. All it needs, is someone to stand tall, stride forward, and hack out a piece of it.

Of course, refusing to enact it now because putting it in motion takes time is just cutting of the nose to spite the face.

How many people are going to go broke having to pay for their government-mandated 5-10K a year health insurance, then? And if they cannot pay, what happens to them? Prison?

This is another form of slavery, imo. Only this time, the government takes over every aspect of your life, literally/

How can you possibly equate a mandate that people have health insurance be a form of slavery?
Is it slavery to mandate people buy car insurance??

You have a choice whether or not to buy a car....you don't have a choice whether or not to have a body/

If someone has no health insurance and no means to pay medical bills, do you think they should be turned away at the hospital? Left to die on the street with no medical care? Hope for charity?

i disagree with the model the admin is using for universal coverage. It is based somewhat on the Swiss model. However, it is much better than what we have. And it addresses the issue of the health insurance death spiral in California, for example.

ivanm,
Quote
Suppose a person has a life threating illness or condition. Should he or she not see a doctor and not avail themselves to what the medical profession has to offer? My step daughter just came thru 5 weeks of hospitalization for pneumonia, and spend 13 days on a ventilator. Tell me that alternative medicine would have saved her.
Who is saying never to see a doctor?

It's funny how white conservatives hurl the word slavery around for everything.

What is funny is how Ivan and Lucy make the case for reform with the issues they raise but complain about actually carrying out reform.
