John misstated me, and no what I was saying was not a cliche, but rather a statement that it IS possible for a bright black student, and in the case of a friend, even in the 1970's Alabama public school system, to be successful....

We're just biting each other around here. No real discussion anymore....

Of course you could take the high on John's comment.

He did have a point. One anecdotal story doesn't really support the point you were making.

Not defending John's comment but if you want real discussion. . .

I have been consistent.

Except I don't.

It is my opinion. I'm entitled to that opinion. No test is necessary.

I'm not interested. If my opinion of your intelligence matters to you then act in a way that I might regard as intelligent.

This is not a statement I would regard as showing much intelligence. Malone and his friends have had their board for a long time. Malone is a decent fellow and I don't agree with a whole lot of his politics but I would say he's way smarter than you are.

More stupidity. As I said, there's a huge diversity of opinion there between the far right and extreme right.

And here you are again with your weasel routine.  Roll Eyes

I'll concede the point about Malone's board.  He'll survive.  In fact I think they will be celebrating 7 years shortly.

The rest stands as written.

I missed the part where I asked you to reconsider anything. Forgive me if I did because, if I did, I'm sorry I erred.

There is no need to defend the comment.  My statement is is accurate.

With regard to the point that Lucy was making, an anecdote does not defeat what we know about historical and structural racism in Alabama.  One person making it in spite of the odds against him/her does not mean that there is no inequality -- which is always the unstated point of those stories.  That, by the way is also a cliché.

On the other hand, one of my friends from hs in Alabama in the 70's is now a prominent doctor...he is so bright. Black, btw.

Stop trying to stereotype everyone/

Its not stereotyping when its true. I know you don't pay atttention to what conservatives have fought for and against, but I have. 1 person sending their kids to private schools is not segregating their kid because of race. And like I said long ago, this lie about private schools being superior will end when the private schools are just as crowded as the public schools.

Its ironic how public schools, specifically inner city public schools, have been attacked by conservatives, but they are not racist, nor do they want to segregate by race. Its funny how black leaders have been constantly under attack from conservatives, yet they are not racist. Its funny how this president has taken more shit for things he inherited than any other I have seen in my life, yet its   not about  his race, its about his policies. And certainly you did not have his race in mind when you posted up about how he was a citizen of indonesia, and the many references YOU have made about feeling more comfortable if you knew Obama was a real citzen.

NO other president has had is citizenship so thoroughly questioned, and if MCcain had won, you, nor any other conservative woould never have brought up the subject after McCain said he was  US citizen.

Given all this, stereotyping is the last thing being done.
