Turretgunner got to be a real pain in the neck and some of us helped him on his way.  Archangel suffered the same fate and he gave up on us.  Day after day he harped on how the native Americans were abused by the whites and few of us were buying into it.  Rocket, I don't know what became of him.  His brother stayed for a while but rocket must be on assignment somewhere.  He had some personal issues to deal with, I think.

The forum is a bit more rancorous now and there is little left that is fair and balanced.  Too many liberals wanting a free lunch and wanting to upheave all that has gone down for decades now.  It reminds me of a bunch of idealistic college brats that haven't spent much time outside the womb in the real world.

Something has definitely changed.  I remember when Pepsi started this forum to give people an alternative to NoPc.  Now the forum is starting to make Nopc seem like Sunday school.  My stay this time will probably be much shorter than I had planned.  Reading the board today, I notice the issues have taken a back-seat to the mud-slinging.  Guess that's capitalism at work.  As long as the advertisers keep paying, the bullshit is overlooked.

Jerry Springer would be proud of the forum.

Actually it was to be an alternative to the Etherzone forum  Wink

I agree there's too much mud slinging going on these days.  Help us get back on track.  I think we can all use a diversion from mud slinging with some real conversation!

Do we know you?

NoPC has changed a lot too. None of the old characters.

Sorry. I should have read the opening post.

I should have asked: do we know you from NoPC?

Pepsi and Archangel and I were at EZ together and then Pepsi started this forum.  Maybe lucy came too but I cannot remember all of the original players.

I take it you prefer socialism over capitalism.  Unbridled capitalism is not the best way to go but capitalist prinicples, if kept in check, can result in a dynamic economy if applied.  Do you think that America would be as far advanced as it is by using socialism all these years?  Look at the Euro socialist coutries.  Who has the best standard of living, them or us?  Why is it that people are wanting to move to the US and not the other way around when it comes to economic opportunity.

There are two or three bad apples in the bunch but except for that we get along pretty well together.  Some people come here looking for a fight and they find one. Did you really expect anything different? I sometimes wish that the rules were tighter, more like over at EZ, when it comes to insults and reverse discrimination, but this being a liberal forum, that is not in the cards.

I am as nasty as anyone around here but I don't have to be and I don't come looking for trouble.  Libs just don't get it, when you have loose rules you have loose morals.  That also goes for society in general but they seem to be in a state of denial.

It has gotten so that those of us who want a sincere and cordial discussion of issues cannot do so for being interrupted by some egomaniacs that are on some sort of a crusade.  I suggest they start their own web site and forum and then have at it.

I stand corrected. It was the zone.  You, Pepsi, Lucy, and I think Pepsi used to have a chess match with Loosecannon.  Pepsi had a wierd handle because he thought pepsi was better than coke.  I forget when he invited Observer to join.  Don't know how I confused the Zone with NoPc.

No, I prefer capitalism.  I like to get my own.  I don't think socialism can even be considered without capitalism to support it.  But John makes a good point.  Who keeps the capitalists in check?

It does take a certain amount of government oversight to keep them in check, but when it reaches the point that government is stifling initiative and capital formation then that is too much oversight.  I think that capitalism to a degree is self-regulating although a number of instances can be shown where monopolistic or crooked capitalists have done some damage.

IMO the government is a piss poor role model and certainly is not a pillar of prudent and acceptable behavior.  And in the past years this corruption in government has been an underlying issue for the battles of ideology.  Corruption knows no bounds it seems and both sides of the aisle have had their share of the blame to bear.

I may be wrong but when you have an autocracy or a dictatorial type of government then collusion and corruption runs rampant because of the cronyism.  I also think this is typical of socialistic regimes because the government policy gives the in-crowd a license to steal, and that crowd is none other than the politicians and the feather merchants who pass out favors to their cronies in the private sector.

I will take my chances with capitalism as there has been no one standing on my head and telling me I cannot take risks and that I cannot excel and be awarded according to my accomplishments.  If a person is a dullard non-creative person or a lazy assed couch potato then socialism is the thing for him as all are treated equally bad, but under capitalism those who get out and hustle and use their God given talents usually profit more than the losers do.

I guess what pisses me off more than anything else on this forum is those who think they have a right to a share of my wealth and income, and two of those whiners make a hell of a lot more than I do.  They hope to escape the inevitable under socialism and that is this.  In spite of what the elitists and the Marxists tell you about soaking the rich to feed the poor, any one with a little surplus will end up forfeiting it, not to feed the poor but to line the pockets of those in charge of the madness. The idea is self defeating because in time the rich are tapped out and are just more poor people, relative to what they once were.

I don't understand the motives or the rationale of lawyers and seasoned computer techs who think this way.  Are they confusing egalitarianism with socialism?  That issue is easy to straighten out.  If a person is concerned about the have nots then get out the old check book and knock yourself out.  Keep one thing in mind though.  There are more takers than givers so you will be played for a damned fool as there are those who will stop at nothing to take your last penny, even mob action.  If they can't steal directly from you then they will get the politicians to do it via government fiat. Anyone from Chicago should understand that unless they have been living in a social vacuum.

Any one who thinks that socialism is a better deal than capitalism needs to hit the books.  Start with the history of the former USSR, note "former", then on to Red China, and browse around European history since the French Revolution.  After all these decades those fools have yet to recover from that mob action. I am not saying the revolution wasn't needed but what ensued was guaranteed mediocrity for some and life long poverty for others.
Why?  The Marxists couldn't deliver on their promises because their policy was bankrupt and fallacious. This is typical
of policy that is cooked up by elitists at the university coffee bar. They have a poor grasp of the real world because they spend their days in an artifical one.
